Kite Surfing in Zanzibar

Zanzibar kite surfing

White beaches, turquoise waters, palm trees and sunshine, Zanzibar has it all. Last winter I spent a week kite surfing in Zanzibar, on a trip that was organized by Girlzactive. If you’re looking to flee the winter cold, this is the perfect place to go!

I traveled together with two friends and a bunch of other girls. We had a direct flight from Brussels to Zanzibar, very convenient. Once we got there, we got welcomed into a tiny and chaotic airport. Welcome to Africa! There are no baggage belts, we just all had to stand around a counter and wait for our bags to appear. It got quite warm and crowded in there, but we kept our cool, we were on vacation!  Once we had all our kite gear off the plane, our host Maroean met us and we hopped on our shuttle bus to our accommodation in a town called Paje. It was my first time in Sub-Saharan Africa, and it immediately felt as I had imagined from pictures and videos.

Discovering Ghent: one of Europe’s best kept secrets

Canal view in Ghent

Ghent is a beautiful town located in the heart of Belgium. It is one of the largest student cities in Belgium and just 30 minutes drive from Antwerp. The historical city center is filled with good quality bars, restaurants, and shops. You can stroll around in the old streets, enjoy a bag of Vlaamse frieten or Neuzekes (local specialty) and of course one of the many good beers with a view on the canal.

So what to do in Ghent?

Have dinner at The House of Elliot

One of the best restaurants in Ghent is The House of Elliot. Surrounded by all kind of things from the roaring 20’s (dolls, old photos, feathers, etc.), you can enjoy the best lobster dishes as well as other delicious food. But honestly, lobster is what you should be ordering here. They serve it fresh and in many different styles, so you’ll surely find one right for you. The whole decoration is an experience by itself, even the toilet will amaze you; full of old Chanel photos, newspaper articles, necklaces, a piece of clothing in a frame. Everything is collected.

Konnichiwa Japan!

20150430_131526

Japan
Land of the rising sun…
Home of Hello Kitty….
Sushi galore…..

I always wonder what people think of Japan before going there and unfortunately my view has already skewed since I studied at Shizuoka University near Mt. Fuji during my first years of University. I think my first images were of crazy dressed people watching anime all day long while slurping on cup ramen. Whatever image you might have a Japan, I promise, will be abruptly changed when you actually visit or live there for the first time! This blog entry is an account of my latest trip to Japan with three others, who were Japan virgins, while I take them on a 10 day journey through 8 places (American style vacation) from the West coast to Tokyo. HAI!!!

London Big Ben and red bus

London is a wonderful metropolis with an incredible number of places to visit and to discover. The largest urban area in the European Union offers a dense and extensive public and private transport network for everyone.
