Top Berlin blogs: a tale of two cities?
Having covered Paris, Rome and Amsterdam in our ‘top blogs’ series, we’ve decided to keep up the momentum with one of Europe’s most fabulous cities: Berlin.
Berlin has so much to offer and teach; culturally and historically it’s one of our richest cities.
Around 80% of Berlin was destroyed during the Second World War. The separation of East and West didn’t do much to help reparation of the city, but more recently great buildings such as those on Museumsinsel have been restored to their former grandeur. That said, even two decades following the fall of the Berlin Wall, the dichotomy of the city is still apparent. Berlin has become a city full of secrets that draws tourists from over the world.
We previously gave you tips from our Berlin local, Lisa, as well as an alphabetical rundown in our Berlin A-Z. It’s now time to look beyond our knowledge and identify some expert Berlin bloggers. Besides English, we’ve also included German, Spanish, French, Dutch and Italian blogs, for a greater degree of variety.
So, without further ado, here’s our list of Top Berlin blogs:
How the Hotel Stars Ratings works [Infographic]
One of the most relevant pieces of information about an hotel is, for sure, the star class. While searching for their hotel people often apply a filter in the search to receive only hotels with 3 stars or more. Some people, to find a cheap hotel, search for 0 star hotels and some people search only for 4 and 5 star hotels.
But what exactly does 2 stars – or 3 or 4 for that matter – mean? That’s a good question and also quite tricky! The hotel stars rating is something that is always in evolution and changes from country to country, but in recent years the “Hotelstars Union” managed to harmonise the hotel classification for establishments throughout Europe and the surrounding area. Several countries subscribed the Hotelstars Union criteria and in 2012 this criteria will be applied basically all over Europe.

Most Romantic Hotels in Europe
A romantic getaway is always nice to refresh your mind and escape from the sometimes boring daily reality. There are plenty of hotels around Europe where you can go with your partner in order to experience some romance and fully enjoy each other. Some hotels took it to the next level and designed a special room setting, or even their entire hotel, in order to attract couples that want to stay indoors and just be together all day long. After thorough research I came up with this list of the “Most Romantic Hotels in Europe”. These hotels are just mind-blowing! As soon as I get the chance, I will visit at least one of them with my partner.

Best reviewed Amsterdam hotels of 2010
As promised, here are the top 20’s of the best reviewed hotels in Amsterdam of 2010 according to the EasyToBook.com bookers.
All hotels with a direct contract with EasyToBook.com are taken into consideration with the exception of hotels with less than 10 reviews, to make sure the outcome is based on a significant number of guests’ opinions.
We only used reviews received in 2010. Therefore, the results may be slightly different than what you can find on the EasyToBook.com website. On our website scores are based on reviews from a longer period. In the future we plan to create new top lists to see if there are any changes.
We decided to categorize the hotels to their star class, to make the comparison fairer. We separated the hotels based on the following star class groups:
- 0 and 1 star hotels
- 2 star hotels
- 3 star hotels
- 4 and 5 star hotels
The 0 and 1 star hotels are combined because of very little differences between them.
The 4 and 5 star hotels are combined due to the low number of 5 star hotels in Amsterdam.
Differences between the classes can still be seen, as the star classes will be displayed in the charts.

Thousands of bookings are made on EasyToBook.com every day. When deciding on what hotel to stay in, people value each other’s opinions on the hotels on offer. Although the opinions of guests can differ quite a lot, the opinions altogether form a trustworthy impression for possible future guests.
Now how do we collect these opinions? When guests stayed at a hotel, we send them an e-mail with a request to fill in a small and simple questionnaire, in which they can tell us about their experiences in the hotel. Luckily a large percentage of the total number of guests is willing to fill in this questionnaire to help inform other travelers.
