New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam – by Kostas

The last competition we ran was to win a 2-night stay in Hilton Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel over New Year’s Eve.  If you remember, the prize was awarded to an amorous young man named Kostas, who told us all that he wanted to propose to his girlfriend in the city where they met, seven years ago.

Now we’re back on the grind and New Year’s Eve is all but a distant memory, but we’re still itching to find out how it went down for Kostas and co., so let’s leave it to him to spill the beans:

Happy New Year!!!!

And how could it not be happy when you welcome 2012 under the fireworks of the magnificent city of Amsterdam!
There’s no danger of hyperbole when describing New Year’s Eve in Amsterdam as the most vibrant and impressive New Year’s Eve one could experience.

To start at the beginning, our arrival at Hilton Amsterdam Schiphol Airport Hotel was great after an enjoyable flight from Athens with KLM.  Our room, the hotel staff and the delicious breakfast were all more than we could have asked for – sure things to remember.

We had a long and perfect day on 31st December, strolling through the cobbled streets and magnificent canals of this amazing city, full of colours and sights, and also full of life.  Amsterdam is a great place for shopping, relaxing, romantic walks, parties…you name it.

As day turned into night the party was winding up from very early in every street and square in the city, with thousands of people everywhere we looked.  As the time for saying goodbye to 2011 and welcoming in 2012 arrived, the sky was coloured with endless fireworks of every possible kind.  Under that sky I asked my beloved if she wanted to see all the coming New Year’s Eves together for the rest of our lives, and when she said yes the fireworks and music seemed even more beautiful!  Both dreams had come true for me: returning to Amsterdam and a chance to propose to my loved one (and receive a positive reply of course)!
The night turned into day and the party was just getting started!  Everyone partied until late in the night – or early in the morning, to be more specific.  This is the most alive and vibrant city we have ever been to, and will ever visit.

Another excursion the next day for a cup of coffee, some gifts and souvenirs (of the many Amsterdam has to offer) and a last chance to walk and witness this amazing city.

Too bad all good things must come to an end; we had to pack our bags and get ready for the return to reality, but full of memories alive, wonderful and most certainly impossible to forget.

Of course all of these would not have happened without the team at who gave us the chance to live this unforgettable experience. A special thanks to our man Luigi for being our Santa Claus this year!

Best wishes to everybody and may 2012 be a year in which everybody sees their dreams come true!

Thanks for your heartwarming story, Kostas; it’s a real pleasure to play some part in helping dreams come true.  Congratulations to you both – such an awesome romantic gesture deserves its reward.  We hope you both have many happy years together.

As for the rest of us, there’s plenty more to dream about.  We look forward to a year full of pleasant surprises and happy moments.  Don’t forget to keep checking the blog for our latest competitions – next time it could be you!
