Top Amsterdam Blogs: cycling on the canals

[like]

God made the Earth, but the Dutch made the Netherlands – this saying explains the practical capability of the Dutch and their sense of cultural pride. We can say the same about Amsterdam and the Amsterdammer, like New York and the New Yorkers.

Each of the 165 canals that are in Amsterdam was made by the Dutch. In such a culturally and socially rich continent as Europe, there’s no other city where people from all over the world are welcome, where every culture can have a voice and every religion can find its space. This is why Amsterdam attracts so many people from every corner of the Earth, not only as tourists, but also as potential residents and contributors to this unique community.

That’s why, following Paris and Rome, I decided to make a list of the top blogs dedicated to Amsterdam, for all the tourists willing to visit this unbelievable city.

Amsterdam canals: from the sublime to the ridiculous

[like]

With its 165 canals, Amsterdam is famous for its relationship with the water. If you then combine this with another popular facet of the city – its craziness – then you get an amazing collection of fun stuff happening on (and in) the canals.

The Gay Pride Parade

Evey year, on the first weekend of August, Prinsengracht (one of the main historical canals of Amsterdam) hosts the Gay Pride Parade, also known as Canal Parade Amsterdam. During the day the canal is full of all kinds of boats, from the official boat of the Amsterdam municipality to the S&M boat…

Disabled-friendly hotels in Amsterdam

[like action=like]

One of the nicest things in life is to go on holiday. However, before we actually leave for our dreamy destination there are many different things we need to arrange and figure out: Where do we want to go? How far is the hotel from the city centre? Is there a wireless Internet connection in case we want to work? How convenient is the public transport? What is the distance between the airport and our hotel? Can we get a smoking room?

If the questions above look like a lot to think about, you can only imagine how many other things come to the minds of people with impaired mobility. As much as the world develops quickly and new facilities are invented every day, the lives of people with impaired mobility are very challenging, whether they are on their way to work, or relaxing on holiday.

Trying to make things a bit easier (when it comes to booking a hotel), we have gathered here the top hotels in Amsterdam which are suitable for people with impaired mobility. We chose Amsterdam because of the morphology of the city. Most of the buildings in the city centre are narrow and not easily accessible for people with impaired mobility, so we decided to pick some of our favorite hotels, visit them and take some pictures to show how accessible and welcoming they truly are!

Winner-Announcement

All things that have a start must at one point end. Our latest contest will end with this announcement of the winner!

The contest was open for a little over a month and we were amazed by the amount of people leaving great comments on our Facebook, blog and Twitter about why they wanted to win the voucher for a 2 nights’ stay in the Eden Amsterdam Hotel.

From the most concise comments to complete documents – we have seen it all. When you ask for a reason why people think they should win a prize, it is very difficult to rectify the reason. Apparently Anna Johnson had the same thought and wrote:

10 things to do in Schiphol airport while waiting for a flight

[like]

Waiting for a flight in the airport is probably one of the most annoying things out there. Airports are not the most exciting places and even though they offer different facilities and shops, after you strolled through all the stores there, (usually there are not so many of them) you will find yourself looking at your watch and praying for the time to move faster. As an expat living in Amsterdam I know the feeling of going crazy while waiting for a flight. That is why I decided to write this”10 things to do in Schiphol airport while waiting for a flight” article. For those of you who take their flight from other airports and want advice as well, no worries, my tips are probably valid for any airport out there!
