This time on our interview specials I am happy to introduce to you not only a colleague of mine at easytobook.com, but also a good friend! Luigi, or Gigi as we all call him here, is one of the nicest and most easygoing persons I ever met. Witnessing Gigi get stressed or upset about something is almost impossible as he always manages to keep his calm (it is almost hard to believe that he is Italian!). No matter what time it is, (even if it’s minutes before going home) Gigi will always be willing to help out with a problem, listen to long, unimportant stories, (mostly told by me) and to keep a smile on his face while doing it. I asked him a few questions so you will have the chance to get to know him a little as well
Name: Luigi Picazio (Gigi for all my friends)
Position: Marketing Executive (SEO and Social Media)
Moved to the Netherlands: almost 3 years ago
Why did you move to Amsterdam?
“Why did I move to Amsterdam…? Well, let’s just say that despite the amazing food and the lovely weather in the south of Italy, I was not really happy down there (in Naples). When you grow up in a place and live there all your life, you learn to love the place unconditionally. You are so used to everything there, that nothing can really bother you anymore. The most important thing is: you have a special bond with a place that promises you this: some things in life can never change. However, at one point of your life, you just feel the need to change everything and start from scratch! That’s why I decided to move abroad. Why Amsterdam? Well, since I was 18 year old Amsterdam was one of my favorite cities, and that is exactly why I moved here, to follow my dream!”
What are the things (if any!) that you like the most in Amsterdam?
Actually, there are many things that I like about the city Amsterdam. I love the melting pot of this city, how people from all around the world live here and it looks like, (so far) that every person found his own balance. I like that I live in a place where I can bike everywhere. I really love all the parks in this city and how the people enjoy them each season: having BBQs during the spring/summer and enjoy the hot sun, and participating in a big snow fight during winter. Last but not least, on my favorite things in Amsterdam list is: the amazing canals in the city center, how can you not love them?
What are the things (if any!) that you don’t like about Amsterdam?
This is an easy one: the food! Luckily it is possible to find all kind of restaurants with different food types. I even managed to find some very good pizzerias. Most of the people complain about the weather, well, I don’t. It’s cold, true, but during the spring and the summer time there is nothing like biking on the canals. Especially when it’s a beautiful and sunny day!
Ok, enough about Amsterdam. Let’s talk about Naples! Can you please give us some inside tips on the coolest places to visit there?
“There is an old saying about Naples: ‘Napoli e’ un Paradiso abitato da Diavoli’ meaning ‘Naples is a Paradise inhabited by Devils’. I think Naples is one of the most beautiful cities in the world; it is full of history and just by walking trough, you will be able to feel the Mediterranean culture in everything! The food, the people, the atmosphere; to me everything in Naples is special. There are so many places to go that it will take me forever to list them all. If you want to hear my advice, the best thing you can do is just go to Naples to experience it yourself. Find a nice local person, (there are a lot of them) and let that person show you the true and beautiful heart of this city!”
For those of you that have little time to spend in this lovely city, here are 5 things you simply cannot miss, according to Gigi:
“Only 5? Ok, i’ll do my best…
1 – Pizza at Brandi: this is the place where the first pizza Margherita served to Queen Margherita in 1889. This pizzeria is still open and if you want to have a pizza where the first Margherita was served, do not hesitate any longer! It’s close to “Piazza Plebiscito”, one of the most beautiful squares of Naples.
2 – Pizza da Michele: I know, I already mentioned pizza before, but when visiting Naples you simply cannot have only one type of pizza! My favorite pizzeria in Naples is “da Michele”. It is a really simple place close to the central station, where you can have only 2 kinds of pizza: Margherita and Marinara. The place is always full with people and it will take you a while before you get a seat, but trust me, it’s worth it! You will have the best pizza experience ever for only 5 euro (beverage included)! Here Julia Roberts had her Pizza in the movie Eat Pray Love.
4 – Castel Sant’Elmo: you must see the top of the city of Naples. From the castle you will able to see all the gulf of Naples up to Vesuvius.
5 – “San Gragorio Armeno” and “Spaccanapoli”: take a walk on these two streets – the real heart of Naples: cribs “Presepi”, churches, pizzerias, small shops with local delicacies and much, much more. You will be overwhelmed by the beauty of these streets, I promise you!”
Thanks Gigi, for sharing some tips about your city. It is also nice to hear that you love Amsterdam as we will always prefer you to stay close to us!
